What is Non Violent Communication?

Nonviolent Communication, also known as compassionate communication or NVC, is a process developed by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg with the aim of compassionately contributing to our own well-being and that of others. He placed empathy at the heart of the approach as a guiding thread to connect with oneself and others. Rosenberg drew inspiration from figures such as Carl Rogers and peace advocates like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

  • Why is it that some people can more easily integrate challenging experiences into their lives than others?
  • What helps people stay connected to their compassionate nature, even in difficult circumstances?
  • How can you delve into deeper truths in a conversation?
  • How can you truly hear and understand someone in their essence, beyond just their story?
  • How can the conscious use of language foster genuine alignment and deepen (therapeutic) relationships?
  • These were some of the questions that inspired Marshall Rosenberg in developing Nonviolent Communication.

Compassionate communication does not aim to change or persuade someone, but rather invites us to discover what truly matters. When we allow this, space often naturally emerges for new possibilities.

I experience the connection between Nonviolent Communication and hypnotherapy as a magical match. Nonviolent Communication helps us listen beyond the surface to the underlying needs and emotions. When these needs are acknowledged, an inner peace and focus arises that not only lays the foundation for deeper connection but also for effective hypnotherapy. The clarity and compassion cultivated through this process enable us to uncover new possibilities during a session and apply them directly to daily life.
